توجه “تجمع نقابة الصحافة البديلة” برسالة إلى قائد قوات حفظ السلام في لبنان، اللواء أرولدو لازارو ساينز، لطلب فتح تحقيق فوري وعاجل يوضح مقتل المصور الصحافي عصام العبدلله وإصابة ستة صحافيين آخرين، لاسيما وأنهم كانوا السترات الواقية مع عبارة “صحافة” بأحرف بيضاء كبيرة.
كما أكد التجمع في رسالته أن البيان الصادر من اليونيفيل بشأن الجريمة كان غامضاً ويتناقض مع ولايتها وفق القرار 1701/2006 الذي يتعلق برصد وقف العداء بين الجانبين.

Subject: Open an investigation into the killing of journalist Issam Abdallah and the wounding of six others.
Dear Sir,
On Friday 13 October 2013 Issam Abdallah was killed and six other journalists were wounded during their duty to report on the aftermath of the escalation in the south and were wearing protective vests with the word “PRESS” in large white letters across their chests and backs.
Your statement about the crime was vague and in contradiction with your mandate stipulated in the resolution 1701/2006 which of it is to monitor the cessation of hostility.
Therefore, we urge you to open an investigation to clarify the incidents that killed Issam and injured others since according to many witnesses an exchange of fire was not happening and the Israeli army hit and targeted them on purpose.
